American Designs - Hardwood furniture of the finest quality built for generations
Built for Generations
Dovetails drawers

An example of reinforcing blocks is seen on bottom shot of highboy.  All glue joints are clamped and allowed to dry for 24 hours.  We want your great grandchildren to use it!  Our finishes are the finest available -- like Sherwin Williams sealer and lacquers, McClosky stains & varnishes.  Also dust covers are used between drawers and slat backs adding strength and durability.  Most pieces break down for easy moving.  Heavier items have heavy duty castors for easy moving and cleaning

Our projects consist of American influenced designs with exotic woods from around the world.  We use solid wood construction outside and inside on all structural parts.  Drawers are dovetailed front and back.  Solid raised panels and rail & stile construction create superior joint strength while allowing panels to float to avoid cracking.  We use today's superior glues, screw it, dowel it and reinforce it.

Drawer edge detail showing our extremely fine dovetail work.

Even the backs are totally finished using slat back or solid wood rail & stile back with panel for added strength.  Every detail is attended to at American Designs.

All opening lids use friction locking hardware to prevent accedental injuries.  Notice resessed hinges that are invisible from the outside.  This shows the lift-up top with storage area included on highboys.

This shows the inside of one of our highboys with the rail and stile dust covers between drawers.  This adds strength and makes less room for dust to penetrate.     Again, we feel that attention to detail of even unseen areas is as important as the outside.

The only difference between the way we build and the way the old skilled craftsmen built is that we have electric motors attached to our machines instead of a shaft off a water wheel.  Several of our tools -- shapers, lathe, etc. -- were built back in the forties.  We've kept them maintained for years, and the quality of the machinery and the motors can't be replaced with equipment now available.  If its made out of wood we can build it, the last architectural project finished was a 23 step curved maple stairway. The clients provided the templates and we cut the stairs.

From stairways to guitars and anything in between we can build it!!
